The journey combines diverse landscapes, excellent wildlife viewing, scenic beauty, and memorable game-drive experiences in one carefully planned safari.

From the peaceful forests and Mount Meru scenery of Arusha National Park to the elephant-rich landscapes of Tarangire, the endless plains of Serengeti, and the wildlife-filled Ngorongoro Crater, each destination adds something different to your Tanzania safari experience.

Arusha National Park

Begin your safari with a full-day exploration of Arusha National Park, one of the most scenic parks in northern Tanzania. The park offers a beautiful combination of forests, open grasslands, lakes, volcanic landscapes, and spectacular views of Mount Meru. During the game drive, you may encounter giraffes, zebras, buffaloes, waterbucks, warthogs, monkeys, and a variety of bird species.

Tarangire National Park

Continue to Tarangire National Park, a spectacular wildlife destination famous for its large elephant herds, impressive baobab trees, seasonal wetlands, and diverse wildlife. The Tarangire River provides an important source of water and attracts many animals, particularly during the dry season. Game drives may offer sightings of elephants, lions, giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, buffaloes, antelopes, and numerous bird species.

Serengeti National Park

Experience the legendary Serengeti National Park, one of Africa's most famous wildlife destinations. Its enormous grasslands and diverse habitats support large populations of wildlife, including lions, elephants, giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, buffaloes, cheetahs, leopards, and hyenas. Depending on the season and location, your safari may also provide opportunities to witness parts of the Great Wildebeest Migration.

Ngorongoro Crater

End your safari with an unforgettable visit to the Ngorongoro Crater. Descending into this spectacular volcanic caldera provides an opportunity to explore one of Tanzania's richest wildlife environments. The crater supports a remarkable variety of animals, including lions, elephants, buffaloes, zebras, wildebeests, hippos, hyenas, and other wildlife. With patience and favorable conditions, visitors may also have the opportunity to see the endangered black rhinoceros.

Wildlife & Scenic Diversity

One of the greatest strengths of this 5-day safari is the variety of environments experienced during the journey. You will move through mountain scenery, forests, lakes, savannah plains, baobab-dotted landscapes, volcanic terrain, and the dramatic walls of the Ngorongoro Crater. This variety makes the safari about more than simply viewing animals; it is also an opportunity to experience the natural beauty of northern Tanzania.

Professional Safari Experience

Throughout the journey, you will travel with an experienced safari driver-guide who understands Tanzania's wildlife, landscapes, roads, and national parks. Your guide will help you identify wildlife, explain animal behavior, share information about the different ecosystems, and choose suitable locations for wildlife viewing based on conditions and animal movements.

A Complete Northern Tanzania Safari

By combining Arusha National Park, Tarangire, Serengeti, and Ngorongoro within five days, this itinerary provides a diverse introduction to Tanzania's northern safari circuit. It is particularly suitable for travelers who want to experience several of Tanzania's most famous wildlife destinations within a relatively short safari holiday.

From Mount Meru and the scenic landscapes of Arusha National Park to the elephants of Tarangire, the wildlife-rich plains of Serengeti, and the extraordinary ecosystem of Ngorongoro Crater, this 5-day Tanzania safari offers a memorable combination of wildlife, landscapes, and authentic African safari experiences.

Arusha National Park Experience

Your 5-day Tanzania safari begins with an exciting visit to Arusha National Park, a beautiful and diverse protected area located close to Arusha city. Although it is one of Tanzania's smaller national parks, Arusha National Park offers an impressive combination of wildlife, forests, lakes, volcanic landscapes, and spectacular views of Mount Meru.

The park provides a different safari atmosphere from the wide-open plains of the Serengeti. Its varied landscapes create opportunities to explore forested areas, open grasslands, wetlands, and scenic viewpoints while looking for wildlife in their natural environment.

Scenic Views of Mount Meru

One of the defining features of Arusha National Park is Mount Meru, Tanzania's second-highest mountain. On clear days, the mountain creates an impressive backdrop across parts of the park and provides some of the most scenic landscapes on the northern Tanzania safari circuit.

Wildlife Viewing in Arusha National Park

During your game drive, you may have opportunities to see giraffes, zebras, buffaloes, warthogs, waterbucks, bushbucks, and other antelope species. The park's forested areas are also home to several primate species, while its wetlands and lakes attract a wide variety of birdlife.

Forests, Grasslands and Wetlands

Arusha National Park is known for its remarkable habitat diversity. The landscape changes from montane forest and wooded areas to open grasslands and wetland environments. This combination creates a varied safari experience and allows visitors to appreciate different ecosystems within a relatively compact area.

Momella Lakes

The Momella Lakes are among the scenic highlights of the park. These shallow alkaline lakes attract numerous bird species and may also provide opportunities to see animals around the surrounding grasslands and water sources. Depending on the season, flamingos and other water-associated birds may be present.

A Peaceful Start to Your Tanzania Safari

Compared with some of Tanzania's busier safari destinations, Arusha National Park can provide a more relaxed introduction to the northern safari circuit. It offers an opportunity to enjoy wildlife and scenery without immediately entering the vast distances associated with destinations such as Serengeti.

What Makes Arusha National Park Special?

  • Beautiful views of Mount Meru and surrounding volcanic landscapes.
  • Diverse habitats including forests, grasslands, wetlands, and lakes.
  • Opportunities to see giraffes, zebras, buffaloes, warthogs, and antelopes.
  • Excellent opportunities for birdwatching around the Momella Lakes.
  • A scenic and peaceful introduction to the northern Tanzania safari circuit.
  • A different landscape and atmosphere from the Serengeti and Tarangire.

The Arusha National Park experience adds scenic diversity to your 5-day Tanzania safari, combining wildlife viewing with forests, lakes, volcanic scenery, and spectacular Mount Meru landscapes before you continue toward Tarangire, Serengeti, and the Ngorongoro Crater.

Tarangire National Park Experience

The next stage of your 5-day Tanzania safari takes you to Tarangire National Park, one of northern Tanzania's most rewarding wildlife destinations. Famous for its large elephant populations, ancient baobab trees, seasonal wetlands, and diverse wildlife, Tarangire offers a classic African safari experience surrounded by beautiful and distinctive landscapes.

The park covers a large area of savannah, woodland, swamps, and seasonal river systems. The Tarangire River is particularly important to wildlife, attracting animals from different parts of the park, especially during the dry season when other water sources become limited.

Large Elephant Herds

Tarangire is especially well known for its elephants. Large herds can often be encountered moving through the park, feeding around the woodland, or gathering near water sources. Watching these impressive animals in their natural environment is one of the most memorable experiences of a Tarangire safari.

The Iconic Baobab Trees

The enormous baobab trees found throughout Tarangire create one of the park's most recognizable landscapes. These ancient trees stand above the surrounding savannah and provide a dramatic backdrop for wildlife viewing and safari photography.

Rich and Diverse Wildlife

In addition to elephants, Tarangire supports a wide range of wildlife. During game drives, you may encounter lions, giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, buffaloes, impalas, gazelles, warthogs, and other antelope species. With favorable conditions, visitors may also have opportunities to see predators such as cheetahs and leopards.

Birdwatching in Tarangire

Tarangire is also an excellent destination for bird enthusiasts. Its different habitats support a wide variety of bird species, ranging from colorful woodland birds to species associated with wetlands and open grasslands. The presence of seasonal water sources helps attract birdlife throughout different periods of the year.

Tarangire River and Seasonal Wildlife Movements

The Tarangire River plays an important role in the park's ecosystem. During dry periods, wildlife from surrounding areas may concentrate around remaining water sources, increasing the chances of memorable animal encounters. Seasonal changes therefore influence where wildlife can be found and what you may see during your game drive.

A Different Safari Landscape

Tarangire offers a distinct visual experience compared with Arusha National Park and the destinations you will visit later in the journey. Its combination of open savannah, giant baobabs, acacia woodland, wetlands, and riverine habitats creates a beautiful setting for photography and wildlife observation.

What Makes Tarangire National Park Special?

  • Large elephant herds and excellent elephant viewing opportunities.
  • Scenic landscapes dominated by ancient baobab trees.
  • The Tarangire River, an important wildlife water source.
  • Opportunities to see lions, giraffes, zebras, buffaloes, wildebeests, and antelopes.

  • Beautiful savannah scenery that offers outstanding safari photography opportunities.
  • Seasonal wildlife movements that create changing game-viewing experiences.

Your Tarangire National Park experience adds elephants, baobab-filled landscapes, diverse wildlife, and classic savannah scenery to this 5-day Tanzania safari before you continue toward the legendary Serengeti National Park.

The Serengeti National Park experience is one of the main highlights of this 5-day Tanzania safari. Famous around the world for its vast open plains, abundant wildlife, and spectacular natural landscapes, the Serengeti offers the opportunity to experience one of Africa's most iconic safari destinations.

As you enter the Serengeti, the landscape gradually opens into expansive grasslands where wildlife can be found across different habitats. The park's enormous size and varied ecosystems support a remarkable concentration of animals and provide excellent opportunities for game viewing throughout the year.

Explore the Endless Serengeti Plains

The word Serengeti is commonly associated with the idea of endless plains, and the scenery certainly lives up to that reputation. Wide grasslands stretch toward the horizon, interrupted by rocky kopjes, acacia trees, seasonal water sources, and areas of woodland. Experience Exceptional Wildlife Viewing

Serengeti is home to an extraordinary variety of wildlife. During your game drives, you may encounter lions, elephants, giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, buffaloes, hippos, hyenas, gazelles, and many other species. Predator Encounters

The abundance of prey across the Serengeti supports a healthy population of predators. Game drives may provide opportunities to observe lions, cheetahs, leopards, hyenas, and other carnivores as they move through their natural habitats. Your safari guide will use experience and knowledge of wildlife behavior to help locate animals while maintaining appropriate viewing practices.

Serengeti Kopjes and Scenic Landscapes

Scattered across the plains are rocky outcrops known as kopjes. These natural formations provide striking scenery and can also serve as resting or lookout locations for wildlife. Combined with the open plains, golden grasslands, and changing skies, the Serengeti offers some of the most memorable landscapes in Tanzania.

Birdlife and Smaller Wildlife

Serengeti is not only about large mammals. The park supports a wide variety of bird species, reptiles, smaller mammals, and other forms of wildlife. Taking time to observe the smaller details of the ecosystem can add another dimension to your safari experience.

Game Drives Across the Serengeti

Your Serengeti experience is centered around game drives through different parts of the park. The exact route and wildlife-viewing areas may vary according to the season, road conditions, weather, and recent wildlife movements. This flexibility allows your guide to adapt the safari experience to current conditions.

What Makes Serengeti National Park Special?

Formed by the collapse of a large volcanic mountain millions of years ago, the crater creates a spectacular natural environment surrounded by steep walls and rich wildlife habitats.

Descending into the crater for a game drive gives you the opportunity to explore a unique ecosystem where grasslands, wetlands, woodland, and water sources support a wide range of wildlife. The dramatic scenery and high concentration of animals make the Ngorongoro Crater a memorable conclusion to your Tanzania safari.

Descend Into the Ngorongoro Crater

One of the most exciting moments of the experience is the descent from the crater rim into the crater floor. As the road winds downward, the landscape gradually opens to reveal extensive grasslands, wetlands, woodland, and wildlife below. The crater walls create a spectacular natural backdrop throughout the game drive.

Rich Wildlife Concentration

The Ngorongoro Crater supports a remarkable variety of wildlife within its enclosed ecosystem. During the game drive, you may encounter lions, elephants, buffaloes, zebras, wildebeests, hippos, hyenas, gazelles, and other species. The crater is also one of the places where visitors may have an opportunity to see the endangered black rhinoceros.

Ngorongoro's Diverse Habitats

Although the crater is geographically compact compared with the Serengeti, it contains several different habitats. Open grasslands provide grazing areas for large herbivores, while wetlands and lakes attract hippos and water-associated birdlife. Wooded areas provide shelter for different animals and add variety to the crater landscape.

Lake Magadi and Flamingos

Lake Magadi is one of the notable features within the crater. Depending on the season and water conditions, the shallow lake may attract flamingos and other waterbirds. The lake also provides a scenic contrast to the surrounding grasslands and crater walls.

Opportunities to See the Big Five

The Ngorongoro Crater is well known for opportunities to encounter several members of Africa's Big Five. Lions, elephants, buffaloes, and rhinoceros may be seen, while leopard sightings are possible but generally more difficult. Wildlife is free to move through the crater, so sightings cannot be guaranteed.

Spectacular Crater Scenery

Beyond wildlife, the scenery is an important part of the Ngorongoro experience. The towering crater walls, open grasslands, forests, wetlands, and distant volcanic landscapes create an impressive setting for photography and nature observation.

A Memorable End to Your Safari

After exploring Arusha National Park, Tarangire, and Serengeti, the Ngorongoro Crater provides a fitting final wildlife experience before returning to Arusha or continuing to your next destination. Its combination of wildlife concentration, dramatic scenery, and geological history makes it one of the most memorable stops on the northern Tanzania safari circuit.

What Makes Ngorongoro Crater Special?

  • A spectacular volcanic caldera with dramatic crater walls.
  • High concentrations of wildlife within a relatively compact ecosystem.
  • Opportunities to see lions, elephants, buffaloes, zebras, wildebeests, hippos, and hyenas.
  • Possible sightings of the endangered black rhinoceros.
  • Diverse habitats including grasslands, wetlands, forests, and lakes.
  • Beautiful views and excellent opportunities for wildlife photography.
  • A unique natural ecosystem and UNESCO World Heritage destination.

The Ngorongoro Crater experience brings together exceptional wildlife viewing, dramatic volcanic scenery, diverse habitats, and unforgettable game drives, providing a spectacular final chapter to your 5-day Arusha, Tarangire, Serengeti and Ngorongoro Tanzania safari.

Wildlife You Can See on This 5-Day Tanzania Safari

This 5-day Tanzania safari takes you through Arusha National Park, Tarangire National Park, Serengeti National Park, and the Ngorongoro Crater, giving you opportunities to encounter a remarkable variety of African wildlife. Each destination has its own habitats and wildlife characteristics, so the animals you see can vary from one park to another and according to the season.

Wildlife sightings are never guaranteed because animals move freely in their natural environment. However, your experienced safari guide will use knowledge of the parks, recent wildlife movements, seasonal conditions, and suitable game-viewing areas to maximize your opportunities for memorable encounters.

Elephants

Elephants are among the most impressive animals you may encounter during this safari. Tarangire National Park is particularly famous for its elephant populations, while elephants may also be seen in Serengeti and the Ngorongoro Crater. Watching a herd move through the savannah or gather around a water source can be one of the most memorable moments of your safari.

Lions

Lions are among the most sought-after predators on a Tanzania safari. The Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater provide important habitats for these powerful big cats. Your guide will carefully observe the landscape and animal behavior to help locate lions resting, hunting, moving through the grasslands, or interacting with their pride.

Leopards

Leopards are present in several northern Tanzania ecosystems, including the Serengeti. They are solitary and often well camouflaged, which can make them more difficult to spot than lions. Seeing one resting in a tree, moving through woodland, or quietly observing the surroundings can be a particularly rewarding wildlife encounter.

Cheetahs

The open grasslands of the Serengeti provide suitable habitat for cheetahs. These fast and highly specialized predators are sometimes seen scanning the plains, resting in open areas, or moving through the grasslands. Sightings depend on the season, location, and animal movements.

Giraffes

Giraffes are commonly associated with the landscapes of northern Tanzania and may be encountered in Arusha National Park, Tarangire, and other areas of the safari circuit. Their distinctive appearance makes them one of the most enjoyable animals to photograph against the backdrop of the African savannah.

Zebras

Large groups of zebras may be encountered across the grasslands of Tarangire, Serengeti, and the Ngorongoro ecosystem. Their movement alongside wildebeests and other grazing animals adds to the classic African safari scenery.

Wildebeests

Wildebeests are particularly important to the Serengeti ecosystem and form one of the main species involved in the Great Wildebeest Migration. Depending on the time of year and location of the herds, you may encounter anything from smaller groups of resident animals to large concentrations of migrating wildebeests.

Buffaloes

African buffaloes can be found in several of the destinations included in this safari. They often move in herds and may be seen grazing in open grasslands, woodland areas, or around water sources. Their size and behavior make them an impressive part of the northern Tanzania wildlife experience.

Hippopotamuses

Hippos can be found in suitable water environments within the safari circuit, including wetland areas and lakes. They spend much of their time in or near water and are particularly interesting to observe around locations where several animals gather.

Hyenas

Spotted hyenas are an important part of the Serengeti and Ngorongoro ecosystems. They are skilled predators and scavengers and can sometimes be seen moving across the plains, near wildlife concentrations, or around areas where other predators are active.

Antelopes and Other Herbivores

The safari also offers opportunities to see numerous antelope and herbivore species, including impalas, gazelles, waterbucks, bushbucks, warthogs, and other species. These animals form an important part of the food chain and contribute to the rich biodiversity of northern Tanzania's protected areas.

Monkeys and Other Primates

Arusha National Park and other forested environments provide opportunities to see different primate species. Monkeys can often be found in forest and woodland habitats, adding another dimension to the wildlife experience beyond the large mammals of the open savannah.

Birdlife

Birdwatching is another rewarding part of this safari. Across the four destinations, you may encounter birds associated with forests, wetlands, lakes, woodlands, and open grasslands. Depending on the season and location, sightings may include flamingos, eagles, vultures, storks, herons, hornbills, and many other species.
