  • Excellent general wildlife viewing
  • Good visibility for photography
  • Comfortable conditions for game drives
  • Tarangire is especially rewarding
02 SCENIC SEASON

November – December

The short rains bring fresh vegetation and greener landscapes across Northern Tanzania. This period can be a great choice for travelers looking for beautiful scenery and a quieter safari experience.

  • Fresh and green landscapes
  • Fewer visitors in many areas
  • Excellent birdwatching opportunities
  • Beautiful photography conditions
03 GREEN SEASON

KNOW BEFORE YOU GO

Weather & Climate on Your Tanzania Safari

Northern Tanzania has a generally pleasant safari climate throughout the year. Weather conditions vary by season and elevation, so you can expect warm afternoons, cooler mornings and evenings, and occasional rainfall depending on the month of your visit.

Warm Afternoons

Safari areas around Lake Manyara and Tarangire are generally warm during the day, making conditions comfortable for wildlife viewing and game drives.

Cool Mornings

Early morning game drives can feel cool, particularly around the Ngorongoro Highlands. A light jacket or warm layer is recommended for morning departures.

Seasonal Rainfall

Tanzania has distinct dry and rainy periods. During the rainy seasons, showers do not necessarily last all day, and safari activities can often continue normally.

Cooler Ngorongoro

Due to its higher elevation, the Ngorongoro area is cooler than many lower-lying safari areas, especially during early mornings and at night.

Tanzania Safari Climate at a Glance

Understanding the seasonal pattern can help you prepare for your 3-day safari and choose the right clothing.

JAN – FEB Short Dry Period
Generally warm with periods of relatively dry weather. Green landscapes and good wildlife viewing can make this a rewarding time to travel.
